Direct Sales Stable In August for Neiman Marcus

Neiman Marcus Inc.’s August 2009 direct revenue increased 0.1% over last year’s level, in part due to strength within its women’s contemporary apparel, dresses, beauty and shoes lines.

But the strength in the retailer’s direct business wasn’t enough to offset its total August revenue decline. During August 2009, the company pulled in $241 million, down from $285 million in August 2008.

Comparable store sales for its brands, which include Neiman Marcus stores and its Bergdorf Goodman operations, fell 19.6%.

The company did not break out retail and direct revenue.

Geographically, Neiman Marcus realized its strongest performances in its Texas and southeastern operations.
