Yankee Candle Losses Widen

The Yankee Candle Co. Inc. posted a net loss of $11.5 million for the first quarter, compared to a net loss of $7.9 million in the prior year. The direct marketer and retailer reported revenue of $125.7 million for the quarter ended April 4, a 10.8% decrease from $141.9 million last year.

The South Deerfield, MA firm reported its consumer direct business decreased by 15.4% from the prior year.

Management attributed these results in part to “the unprecedented macroeconomic environment that continues to impact the company, and other consumer-facing companies in 2009.”
