Yankee Candle Posts Income Gain

The Yankee Candle Co. Inc. posted net income of $6.7 million for the third quarter, an increase over $3.2 million in the prior year.

The South Deerfield, MA company reported revenue of $181.1 million for the quarter ended Sept. 27, a 3% increase over $175.8 million last year.

Management attributed this to increased sales in the its domestic and European wholesale businesses and in new stores, offset in part by decreased comparable store sales in its retail business.

The marketer posted gross profit of $248.3 million for the quarter—55.3% of sales--compared to gross profit of $$181.7 million –45.6% of sales --in the prior year.
