If your customers aren't already watching your content online, chances are they will be soon. Within the next three years, more than 16 million U.S. households may be using their broadband service more than their television sets, according to a survey by In-Stat. “Today's stable and profitable subscription TV services are facing new competition from online and mobile entertainment services,” said In-Stat analyst Gerry Kaufhold in a statement. “The very nature of what consumers call ‘entertainment’ is undergoing a profound change, where those connected on social networks or buddy lists are creating micro user communities, replacing traditional entertainment sources such as TV programs.” Thirty percent of respondents indicated they would drop subscription TV and use the Internet for TV, while 42% felt they weren't getting enough international news and information from their current TV service. Nearly 40% of all respondents said they'd never heard that U.S. analog television would no longer be available after Feb. 17, 2009. |
