New Appending Firm Surfaces

Another e-mail appending firm has surfaced with troubling contact information on its Web site.

However, the company’s proprietor—and apparently sole operator—has assured Magilla he is on the up and up.

Last week, a Magilla Marketing reader who asked to remain anonymous forwarded a message from John Smith, president of USA Appenders.

The reader asked if USA Appenders could be related to EmailAppenders, a data seller several marketers claim ripped them off in bad e-mail list deals.

An investigation revealed no information linking USA Appenders to EmailAppenders.

But a search of USA Appenders Web site revealed troubling signs.

For one thing, the Web site has no information about USA Appenders’ executive team.

It also lists its addresses as 2021 Lexington Ave., New York, NY. That addresses is on Lexington Avenue and 123rd Street, a residential neighborhood in Harlem.

When reached by phone, USA Appenders’s Smith was surprisingly candid.

He said he is based in India and the Lexington Avenue address is that of a friend to whom he pays $10 a month in order to have a U.S. address.

Smith said he has been in business one month and that he is running an honest company.

As evidence of this claim, he said he is accepting payment only by credit card and only accepting 50% up front.

“I take 50% up front and only after 10 days and they are satisfied do I charge for the rest,” he said.
