Signed last week by Ireland’s communications minister, Eamon Ryan, the legislation went into effect immediately.

It reportedly outlaws all unsolicited commercial e-mail, text messages and faxes sent to devices in Ireland.

Violators reportedly face fines of up to 250,000 euros—about $349,000 at current exchange rates.
