Court Fines Xentel for No-Call Violations
A Florida-based telemarketing company has been ordered to pay $75,000 for violating Missouri's no-call law.
Xentel, Inc., based in Fort Lauderdale, FL and Alberta, Canada, violated the law while making fundraising calls, according to Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon.
The company’s fundraising practices were manipulative, Nixon charged. In addition, Xentel denied or interfered with consumers’ requests to be placed on Xentel’s own do-not-call list, he continued.
Nixon added the company repeatedly called state residents who had specifically asked not to be called. “We will aggressively go after telemarketers who make repeat call after being told to stop,” said Nixon in a statement.
In addition to levying the $75,000 penalty, Circuit Court Judge David Dowd has ordered Xentel to implement and maintain procedures to ensure future compliance with consumer protection and telemarketing laws in Missouri.
Xentel must also provide the Attorney General’s office with a list of all Missouri consumers who have asked not to be called.
