A survey conducted by the publisher of the Sales Lead Report found that 54% of respondents said their marketing budget would increase somewhat in 2004. Some 3.8% said their marketing budget would increase significantly.

Only 7.7% said their marketing budget would decrease significantly.

As for the sales budget, nearly 58% reported that they would increase that somewhat, while 7.7% plan to increase it significantly. Some 11.5% would decrease.

Nearly 74% of the respondents said they would create their 2004 budget using a zero sum as the starting point. In other words, they used the estimated cost of everything required to meet their goals and did not base it on historical data.

Almost 35% claimed they used their 2003 budget as the starting point to determine their 2004 budget.

The survey went to more than 3,900 subscribers to the e-version of Sales Lead Report.
