RMI Direct Marketing Inc. has purchased D-J Associates bringing in tow more than 50 additional list management and brokerage clients in the food, children’s, gifts and other markets. Terms have not been disclosed.

D-J’s president Kathy Duggan-Josephs has become vice president of multichannel marketing at RMI. She’ll focus on integrating postal and e-mail marketing programs for clients.

RMI has concentrated mostly in consumer publishing and nonprofit fundraising markets, while D-J has branched out from catalog marketing in recent years to offer more e-mail services to clients.

The acquisition expands RMI’s ability to offer e-mail lists and consulting services to clients, according to Tally Maffucci, president of RMI.

“RMI is great strong independent list company and so is D-J. We’re both strong in different markets, so why not team up,” says Duggan-Josephs. “It’s a way for both of us to expand our businesses,” adds Maffucci.

The acquisition and merger of D-J into RMI is expected to streamline operations, as RMI has a newer technology infrastructure, which will used in place of the systems D-J has been using.

Duggan-Josephs says the acquisition reflects the ongoing consolidation trend in the list business, but she believes the cultures of D-J and RMI are compatible and that RMI will be a stronger independent company as result.

“RMI has a lot of fundraising clients and we manage a number of catalog lists that fit those markets,” says Duggan-Josephs.

Clients that D-J is bringing to RMI include A&E, Chinaberry, Danskin, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Hershey’s, J. Marco Catalog, Mrs. Fields Gifts Inc., PajamaGram, Seeds of Change, Vermont Teddy Bear Co. and the U.S. Fund for Unicef Catalog.

D-J’s office in Ridgefield, CT is being closed. Eight DJ employees are joining RMI. D-J’s in-house staff will be moving to RMI’s headquarters on June 2, while D-J’s satellite offices in Conway, NH and Charlotte, NC remain open under the RMI banner. Both companies have been in business for more than 20 years.
